Job Summary:
A Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, performs diagnostic tests, administers treatments, and offers education to patients and their families. RNs are responsible for assessing patient conditions, developing care plans, and coordinating care to ensure the best outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Conduct thorough patient assessments by monitoring vital signs, evaluating symptoms, and reviewing medical histories.
Administer medications, injections, IV fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by doctors.
Assist in medical procedures, surgeries, and post-operative care.
Provide wound care, change dressings, and manage catheters or IV lines.
Health Monitoring:
Continuously monitor and assess patient conditions and progress.
Record symptoms and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
Recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions.
Care Coordination:
Develop, implement, and evaluate personalized patient care plans.
Coordinate care with doctors, other nurses, and specialists to ensure all aspects of a patient's health are addressed.
Ensure seamless communication and collaboration across different healthcare providers.
Patient Education:
Educate patients and their families on managing chronic illnesses, post-operative care, and overall health maintenance.
Provide guidance on diet, exercise, medications, and lifestyle adjustments.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
Document care provided, patient progress, and any changes in treatment plans.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an associate degree in nursing (ADN).
License: Active RN licensure by passing the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination).
Skills: Strong clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, excellent communication, empathy, and ability to manage stress.
Experience: Clinical experience during nursing education; additional experience in specialized areas (e.g., pediatrics, emergency care) is a plus.
Work Environment:
Registered Nurses can work in a variety of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, schools, and community health organizations. They may work in high-stress environments, especially in emergency or critical care units, and often work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
